Saint Lucia’s Barclett Earns Regional Award

Saint Lucia international goalkeeper Vino Barclett is enjoying a double celebration today. The 25-year-old from Vieux Fort not only led Jamaican team Cavalier SC to their first-ever Concacaf Caribbean Cup, but he was rewarded with the title of Best Goalkeeper as well. Playing Tuesday evening at Estadio Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, Cavalier lost the second leg of the final 2-1. But after winning 1-0 at home, they ended with an aggregate score of 2-2, and the Jamaican unit emerged triumphant via the away-goal rule. Barclett was a rock for Cavalier, despite two first-half goals for the home team. Dwayne Atkinson answered for Cavalier to tie things up in the 54th minute, then Barclett stopped José Barreto from distance in the 70th, then Eddipo Rodríguez in the 85th. The Saint Lucian stopper the night with three saves, as Cavalier withstood the pressure to win on away goals. Barclett has been representing Saint Lucia for a decade now, from the Under-15 level. He played for El Niños in Saint Lucia, Morvant Caledonia United in Trinidad & Tobago, and Grenades FC in Antigua & Barbuda before joining Cavalier.
