Samuel Frimpong Honored for Outstanding Contributions to Mineral Industry Education

Samuel Frimpong, professor and vice provost for graduate education at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, has received the 2024 Mineral Industry Education Award from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration. He was recognized for his outstanding contributions to mineral industry education. Dr. Frimpong has served as a professor of mining engineering with Missouri University of Science and Technology for the past 20 years. He also serves as the Robert H. Quenon Endowed Chair and was named vice provost for graduate education in 2023. Earlier in his career, Dr. Frimpong taught as an assistant professor at Dalhousie University in Canada. He also served as an associate professor, and was eventually promoted to full professor at the University of Alberta in Canada. In addition to his current teaching and administrative roles, Dr. Frimpong leads the Heavy Mining Machinery Research Laboratory and the Mine Escape Research, Innovation, and Technology Center. His research has focused on mine automation and intelligent systems, heavy machinery, fossil fuels, synthetic, and renewable energy, and mine safety.
