Senior Cop Lauds Public Contribution To Most Police Successes

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Luke Defreitas, has emphasised the critical role the public plays in assisting the police to solve crimes, citing that the majority of law enforcement successes stem from public cooperation.
“I can say almost 80, 90% of our successes are because of support from the public, and so we continue to always make that appeal to the public,” Defreitas noted.
Acknowledging concerns regarding the confidentiality of tips provided by the public, the senior police officer gave strong assurances about the police force’s commitment to safeguarding informants’ identities.
“I need to confirm to the public that your information remains confidential, notwithstanding the many reports of persons who accuse the organisation of putting their identification or their identities out there with reference to them giving information…it is a situation that the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force takes very seriously.”
He reassured the public that there are secure channels available for reporting tips, including the anonymous “555 crime hotline” and the police crime app. “Feel free. Feel relaxed to come in, call in, give the information like we’ve always said. There’s a 555 crime hotline. There’s also our crime app, and these are safe and secure, I can assure you.”...
