In relation to his parking lot shooting incident, Shawn Kemp has been sentenced to 30 days in jail; however, the ex-NBA superstar will fulfill this period at home. On Friday afternoon, a judge in Pierce County announced this decision, and Kemp, the former Seattle Supersonic, maintained a calm demeanor upon hearing the ruling. Prior to sentencing, Kemp expressed his sincere regret to the judge, stating he was “very apologetic” for the events leading to the criminal charges. He appeared in formal attire consisting of a navy suit jacket, tan trousers, a white dress shirt, and a light blue tie. The incident unfolded in 2023 after Kemp was accused of firing at two men in a Tacoma mall, who allegedly stole his possessions, including a phone. Initially, Kemp pleaded not guilty, asserting he acted in “self-defense.” Ultimately, in May, he accepted a plea deal for second-degree assault. The prosecution aimed for a nine-month sentence, while Kemp's legal team argued for leniency. Among those supporting him in court was former NFL player Marshawn Lynch.
