Ohio Woman Falsely Targets Black Teen in Wallet Theft That Never Happened

Penny Thompson, a 42-year-old Black resident of Ohio, was eagerly anticipating a month-long visit with her 15-year-old son after retrieving him from his father's home in North Carolina earlier this month. She even stopped at a Mentor Walmart to purchase a 55-inch television for her son to enjoy while with her.However, an unexpected incident unfolded when a random white woman accused her son of stealing her wallet, implying he appeared “guilty” without any substantiation. In reality, the wallet was found nestled within the woman’s purse.Thompson expressed frustration, insisting that if they were white, such an occurrence would not have taken place. Additionally, from the moment they entered the store, they faced racial profiling, as she was asked to show identification, a requirement rarely imposed on white patrons making sizable purchases. The encounter escalated outside, resulting in a viral TikTok video that captured the moment. Ultimately, law enforcement confirmed that the wallet was indeed located in the woman’s purse.
