A Texas woman, aged 25, is in custody after allegedly instructing a 9-year-old girl to operate her vehicle, resulting in a crash that left the child hospitalized with serious injuries. Home surveillance footage reveals the car speeding in reverse down a street with the driver's door ajar before colliding with a neighbor’s vehicle, causing the child to be thrown from the car. The incident unfolded in a San Antonio neighborhood on November 12, as Ladeja Pickett was decorating for Christmas. Despite being told by the child's mother that her daughter lacked driving skills, Pickett insisted, "She’s going to learn." According to authorities, Pickett positioned the girl in the driver's seat, shifted the car into reverse, and allowed the child to take control. The vehicle accelerated from the driveway, ultimately crashing into a neighbor's truck. The girl sustained forehead lacerations and road rash, necessitating three surgeries, with a projected recovery time of three months. Pickett faces charges of child injury and endangerment.
