A recently circulated video featuring a 12-year-old boy being apprehended for reckless biking has ignited significant public backlash and prompted discussions regarding the necessity of such police action.The one-minute footage, shared on TikTok, depicts a Charlotte, North Carolina officer clarifying to a bystander the rationale behind the boy's arrest. “If they recklessly ride into traffic, hitting vehicles, we attempt to intervene,” the officer explains. “Even if they flee, we must seize the bike... it’s illegal regardless of age.”The clip shows the boy in cuffs, seated in a patrol car while he asks bystanders to contact his mother. A nearby observer challenges the officer’s approach, arguing the boy should have received a warning instead of being handcuffed.The boy’s mother, Jasmine Ervin, expressed her belief that police overstepped their bounds, emphasizing that her son could have simply been returned home.
