On April 3, our community experienced an unexpected withdrawal of humanities funding essential for local history education, library improvements, and civic projects throughout Indiana. The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) ceased grants following a directive from the Department of Government Efficiency. This support was crucial for numerous cultural initiatives benefiting residents. In 2024, Indiana Humanities invested over $317,000 in 127 organizations, strengthening community ties and enhancing local heritage. It’s imperative to champion the humanities to protect democracy and our shared future.
