SLFS Concerned After Four Fires, Over 100 Ambulance Calls Within A Week

The Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) has expressed concern over several fires within the past week, leaving twelve people homeless. During the same period, the SLFS responded to 186 ambulance calls. Between Saturday and Tuesday, fires broke out in structures at Cacao Babonneau, Bexon, Pavee, and Cantonment in Vieux Fort. The Vieux Fort fire also spread to two vehicles. Regarding ambulance responses, emergency personnel received calls for medical emergencies, road accidents, and physical assaults. But, there were no reports of life-threatening injuries due to the physical assaults, including woundings. Fire Chief Ditney Downes has appealed to citizens to be more vigilant and heed the fire safety tips from the Fire Department. In addition, Downes encouraged people to exercise caution on the road and restraint in their celebrations.
