In an effort to address the persistent blood scarcity in Saint Lucia, the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) is organizing a nationwide blood drive on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will take place in their parking lot located in Tapion, directly across from Tapion School.
This initiative reflects the association’s ongoing commitment to the community and aims to foster a culture of voluntary blood donation. Dr. Dianne Ferdinand-Walcott, Vice President of SLMDA, emphasized the critical nature of blood shortages. “Many St Lucians have encountered requests for blood,” she stated, highlighting the urgent, ongoing need despite low blood bank supplies.
She elaborated that donated blood is vital for numerous individuals, including newborns, mothers with severe childbirth complications, and children suffering from sickle cell disease. By participating, donors can provide hope and a fighting chance for patients in dire need, including those battling cancer and accident victims. The event promises not only donation opportunities but also snacks, music, and exciting prizes.
