Snapdragon Journal holds readings from new anthology at Bookmarks event

By Judie Holcomb-Pack Snapdragon, a journal of art and healing, celebrated its first anthology of selected poets from its five years of publication and its online readings, at an event at Bookmarks on March 16. Snapdragon was birthed in 2015 out of the work of The Word Project by founder Jacinta White. As described on their newly redesigned website, Snapdragon is a “premier online, international literary journal for poets, writers and photographers and all who are looking to creativity as a way to process and express the healing journey.”   Published quarterly from 2015-2022, each issue has a theme to help those who are experiencing grief, heartache or illness to experience a place to find physical, spiritual and emotional healing. Since 2023 Snapdragon has done live events and online readings. Snapdragon’s anthology, “I Tried Not To Write,” features selected works of 84 poets and writers that they have published over the past eight years. Although the anthology was published in December 2023, the event at Bookmarks was its debut in Winston-Salem.
