SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Allen, Murray, and Ollie traded to SuperSonics

Back in 2003, professional basketball player Ray Allen was one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. He had a pure shot and he was often underestimated with his ability to attack the basket and finish over or around people with his athleticism. He was great for the Milwaukee Bucks, but the rumored contentious relationship between Allen and head coach George Karl led to the Bucks doing something that shocked some people.

On Feb. 20, 2003, Allen, along with guards Flip Murray and Kevin Ollie, was traded to theSeattle SuperSonics for guard Desmond Mason and Gary Payton, whom Karl had coachedwhen he was the head coach in Seattle.
Karl didn’t survive in Milwaukee, as they hired a new general manager and went in a different direction after the 2002-2003 season. Allen would shine like the star he was in Seattle during his time there, most notably having a rivalry with Kobe Bryant during his time...
