**Statement from Dr. James Hildreth** This week, our campus experienced a despicable act of nonviolent hate. An unknown individual or individuals vandalized a secluded section of the Albion Street parking structure with the menacing graffiti, “N*****s should die.” The incident was promptly reported to the Metro Nashville Police Department, and the offensive markings were swiftly eradicated. In response, we have heightened security patrols to safeguard the well-being of our campus community. We unequivocally reject hate and remain steadfast in defending the dignity and welfare of our members. This despicable act will not alter our identity—an identity cultivated over nearly 150 years. Meharry will persist in its commitment to educate, serve, and inspire, ensuring that our campus remains a sanctuary of healing, inclusivity, and safety for everyone.
