ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A business just south of downtown was badly vandalized over the weekend, covered in black and silver graffiti tags. David Weglarz, the owner of Still 630 Distillery, found the mess covering his building as he arrived to meet a tour group over the weekend. The spray paint covered all four sides of his building, including a custom sign he had out front displaying the distillery’s well-known spirits. He said the incident would likely be an expensive mess to clean up, especially replacing the sign. But he said the look of the mess, and the impression on viewers, frustrated him even more. “To me it’s demoralizing. Just a punch in the gut,” Weglarz said. “There’s people who come from all over the country to visit St. Louis. Some of them stop to see us. This isn’t the impression we want to make when they just see graffiti everywhere. Across the street from Weglarz a building was covered in similar tags. Earlier in August businesses in The Grove reported graffiti near the entrance to the bar and restaurant district there, captured on video by the Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative’s camera network.
