Book Talk Turns Chaotic When MAGA Attendee Yells Racist Remarks and Stop Telling Me What to Do Before Ejection

On May 21, Dr. La’Tonya Rease Miles, a Black author, hosted a book talk at the charming James M. Duncan Branch Library in Alexandria, Virginia, to promote her memoir, “Smart Girl: A First-Gen Origin Story.” Attendees eagerly awaited signed copies and were keen to hear her empowering narrative as the first in her family to graduate from a four-year institution.However, the event was disrupted by a belligerent Trump supporter. The older white man, adorned in a bright red MAGA shirt, began to heckle her, shouting, “This is not Nazi Germany!” and refusing to heed library security's requests for decorum.As chaos unfolded, witnesses noted the man’s derogatory outbursts directed at a Black female security guard and his mockery of the attendees. Dr. Miles maintained her composure, remarking the signing “went well despite the clown.” Viewers online reflected on the disturbing nature of the incident, identifying it as a troubling trend of hostility aimed at Black spaces.
