Lawsuit Alleges Denny’s Staff Refused To Seat Black Women As Other Guests Ate In Peace

Five Black women claim they were denied service at a Denny's in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, last year due to purported electrical problems, leading them to file a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination. The incident, occurring on January 14, 2024, involved a white hostess who obstructed their entry, citing flickering lights. Surprisingly, once inside, the women observed numerous white patrons receiving attentive service amid an otherwise bustling environment devoid of any flickering lights.After recording their experience, the women expressed their disbelief regarding the purported service issue. The plaintiffs, including professionals from diverse fields, assert they experienced significant humiliation solely based on their race. They criticize Denny’s corporate office for attempting to placate their concerns through a “token” Black executive, equating the offer of a free meal with an inadequate resolution to their grievances.The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages while highlighting a history of similar discriminatory practices at Denny's establishments nationwide. Denny's franchise owner has 21 days to respond.
