Beloved Street Performer 'Kunta' Passes Away Unexpectedly at Roadside

Renowned street figure Kunta, known as the “president of the vagrant association,” unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday morning in Gros Islet, leaving locals and onlookers in shock. His real name was Stephen William, and he gained fame through various viral clips. Witnesses reported seeing him strolling along Chapel Street around 5:45 a.m. before he collapsed near a fence. Philomen Bretney, affectionately known as Sister, recounted the scene while setting up for her bread sales. “About a quarter to six, I noticed him walking toward us, but he looked unwell,” she shared. After stumbling, he fell and remained motionless. A passing van with several men included an ex-police officer, who assessed the situation before calling an ambulance. The Saint Lucia Fire Service confirmed Kunta was found unresponsive, with a tree stump penetrating his throat, leading to his immediate pronouncement of death by a doctor.
