Students Gather to Celebrate HBCU Signing Day

On February 29th at 6pm, six students and their families gathered to partake in the first HBCU signing Day. First inaugural signing day was supported by Chase Bank and hosted by Dallas Weekly in partnership with Dallas Greek socialites, Toast For Charity, NotMySon Dallas and TheNetwork.
The event took place at the AT&T discovery District Plaza theater room and was emceed by K104 radio host, lil D. The event had six HBCU alumni speak to the experience of HBCU life and continued the celebration with each student at the event receiving a $1,000 award and financial education from Community Banker, Terri Thomas of Chase Bank.
“ As a former student athlete, I do remember how big of a deal it was to celebrate the next phase of your life, both athletically and academically. That sense of accomplishment that you celebrate with not only your family, but also your peers is such a huge moment. With creating ”HBCU signing Day”, I want these students to know that carrying on the legacy and pride of an HBCU is incredibly important and something to be celebrated.
