Tapion Hospital Opens Its First Community Pharmacy

Tapion Hospital recently opened the doors of its first community pharmacy at the CPJ supermarket in Cul de Sac, Castries. According to a release, CPJ’s Managing Director, Richard Duboulay, presented the idea to the hospital and they agreed to inaugurate the externally based Tapion Hospital Pharmacy. “For me the challenge was actually finding a pharmacist [but] we were able to overcome that hurdle in the last six months,” Duboulay shared. The joint initiative aims to provide comprehensive medical solutions to surrounding communities, combining clinical and community pharmacy practices. “We have people in the valley, people coming from Dennery and people coming from Vieux Fort. Rather than them coming all the way to Tapion, this is a midpoint. They can just come here, turn around and go back,” said Chief Pharmacist Debra Spencer. Tapion Hospital CEO, Andre Dhanpaul added: “Because we’re a hospital pharmacy, we have more original drugs than many of the other pharmacies on island and this is what we’re able to bring here as well. And pricing, we’re very competitive… ” The pharmacy intends to offer additional services in coming months, including blood sugar and blood pressure testing.
