A study of over 1,000 NYC middle and high schools revealed links between student discipline and teacher characteristics. Positive perceptions of school climate and diverse staff correlated with lower suspension rates, especially for Black and Latinx students. Future research should focus on enhancing teacher support and improving school climates.
