Texas braces for Emergency Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday

(Special to The Dallas Examiner) – Texans looking to bolster their emergency preparedness kits will have a valuable opportunity this weekend. The annual Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday will take place from April 26-28.During this three-day period, residents can purchase a wide range of essential emergency supplies tax-free. This initiative aims to encourage Texans to prepare for potential hurricanes, severe storms and other emergencies common in the state.There is no limit on the quantity of qualifying items individuals can purchase tax-free. Furthermore, shoppers do not need an exemption certificate to take advantage of the savings.For those who may inadvertently pay sales tax on eligible items during the holiday, the Texas Comptroller’s Office advises that they can seek a refund either directly from the seller or by filing a claim with the Comptroller’s office.It’s important to note that while the emergency supplies themselves are tax-exempt, any delivery, shipping, handling or transportation charges associated with the purchase may still be subject to sales tax if the underlying item is typically taxable.Texans are encouraged to take advantage of this tax holiday to ensure they have the necessary supplies on hand to stay safe during emergencies.
