State Of Texas Chooses Partner to Propel School Voucher Program Development

On Monday, Texas' chief financial officer announced the selection of a technology firm that will assist in establishing the school voucher initiative approved by lawmakers earlier this year.Odyssey will collaborate with the comptroller's office, which manages the finances of Texas state government, to create a system for families to apply for significant taxpayer-funded assistance aimed at covering private or homeschooling costs. Additionally, Odyssey will set up a platform for families to explore educational products and facilitate tuition payments.Applications for this program, called "Texas Education Freedom Accounts," are anticipated to open early next year, with the program launching at the beginning of the 2026-27 academic year.Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock expressed a commitment to empowering parents in choosing optimal educational paths for their children. Odyssey has been entrusted with considerable responsibilities, including raising awareness and managing complaints related to the program. The law permits up to 5% of the $1 billion funding, potentially increasing significantly by 2030.
