Indiana Sheriff’s Department Under Fire for Withholding Body Cam Footage in Pregnant Black Woman's Miscarriage Case

Shikeia Randolph, a 29-year-old Black woman who is pregnant, was driving with her four children when an Indiana officer pulled her over in 2023 due to a license plate issue. Lake County Sheriff’s Officer Peter Hamady ordered her out, alleging a warrant related to truancy, which Randolph argued stemmed from picking up her children just before school dismissal and attending a court hearing prior.Concerned for her safety, Randolph requested to wait for her mother before exiting the vehicle, leading Hamady to summon backup. After several officers arrived, they forcibly removed her from the car, injuring her back, shoulders, and abdomen. Randolph, 11 weeks pregnant at the time, suffered a miscarriage three months later, as claimed in her federal lawsuit filed on June 4 against the department.The lawsuit alleges violations of her constitutional rights, along with claims of malicious prosecution and negligence for failing to properly train officers. Body camera footage from the incident remains unreleased, raising concerns about transparency and accountability within the police department.
