It is with profound sorrow that we remember Congressman Charles B. Rangel—a towering figure in American politics, a dedicated son of Harlem, and an unrelenting champion for justice, equity, and opportunity.Rangel was not only a distinguished legislator but also a moral beacon, tirelessly advocating for marginalized communities. His journey spanned from the Korean War to Congress, embodying bravery, conviction, and empathy. As a founding member of Harlem's “Gang of Four,” alongside Percy Sutton, Basil Paterson, and David Dinkins, he played a pivotal role in transforming New York's political landscape and inspiring future generations of Black leaders. We were privileged to honor his legacy with the Emma L. Bowen Humanitarian Award, recognizing his unwavering fight for essential social services. Our deepest sympathies go to the Rangel family. His indelible impact will forever resonate.
