The Shocking Reasons Most Americans Won’t Join a Clinical Trial

Do you truly know the benefits that can come from participating in a clinical trial? More of us know all the reasons why it wouldn’t be a good idea, however discovering a cure for cancers and illnesses that are plaguing the Black community may just be enough to help change your negative thoughts about them. Fourty-one percent of Americans know nothing about clinical trials, and just four in ten Americans have a positive impression of clinical trials and, only about one-third of Americans would be likely to enroll in one, according to surveys. The findings are cause for concern in terms of cancer research because nearly every advancement in cancer was first evaluated in a clinical trial, according to a study commissioned by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, in New York City. They added that previous research has found that only 4 percent of cancer patients in the United States actually enroll in clinical trials each year.
