The City of Birmingham has sanctioned nearly $13 million for street resurfacing initiatives throughout the area. The city council allocated three contracts to Dunn Construction Company, recognized as the lowest bidder, to execute the project. Residents can consult the Birmingham Department of Transportation's website to identify which roads are set for resurfacing and those that have already been completed. Several council members voiced concerns regarding the efficiency and quality of past resurfacing endeavors. Councilor Valerie Abbott pointed out problems with earlier projects, stating, “The contractors are paving right up to the top of the curb. If this continues, we risk losing the curb entirely." City Council President Darrell O’Quinn expressed doubts about Dunn Construction’s prior engagements with the city but emphasized that the new agreements incorporate provisions to rectify previous shortcomings. "A 'punch list’ process follows the resurfacing, allowing for thorough inspections,” O’Quinn elaborated, noting the city's extensive road network and optimal timing for work commencing from late summer into fall.
