The letters on their chests collectively spelled “RYLEE.”As the image spread online, it ignited widespread condemnation and prompted inquiries from residents, NAACP representatives, and state officials.Democratic state Rep. Derrick Jackson expressed disbelief, questioning why such behavior occurred in 2025 in an educational environment designed for learning and enjoyment. Parents and locals voiced their anger during a recent school board meeting, labeling the incident as painful and “dehumanizing.” NAACP leaders are urging the district to revise its policies to explicitly ban blackface from school events.
