Three Black Professors Appointed to New Positions at Universities

Reitumetse Obakeng Mabokela has been appointed associate chancellor and vice provost for global affairs and strategies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She will also hold a faculty appointment as a professor of comparative and international higher education. Prior to joining the University of Illinois, she was a professor of higher education and the assistant dean for international studies in the College of Education at Michigan State University. Originally from South Africa, Dr. Mabokela graduated magna cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University with her bachelor’s degree in economics. She holds a master’s degree in labor and industrial relations and a Ph.D. in educational policy studies from the University of Illinois. Colin Adams has joined the faculty at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, as an assistant professor and program coordinator in the department of psychology. He comes to his new role from another Raleigh-based HBCU, Saint Augustine’s University, where he taught for over a decade. Outside of academia, he has extensive professional experience in family counseling, juvenile justice, and gang prevention and intervention.
