Three Black Scholars Selected for New Faculty Positions

Jack Eaddy has joined the faculty in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. In addition to his teaching role, he will serve as the university’s associate director of bands. He comes to the University of Georgia from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, where he has served as director of athletic bands for the past three years. Dr. Eaddy holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Florida State University, a master of music degree in wind conducting from the University of Georgia, and a doctor of musical arts degree in wind conducting from the University of North Texas. Karida Brown has been named the inaugural Diane Nash Descendants of the Emancipation Chair in the John Lewis Center for Social Justice at Fisk University in Nashville. She comes to her new role from the University of California, Los Angeles where she served as a professor of sociology and African American studies. In addition to her teaching appointment, she served as the director of racial equity and action for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.
