A man who mounted the ‘All In’ sculpture in Castries and waved a Dominica flag has attracted criticism from Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire. Hilaire, Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries, told reporters Thursday that what occurred was ‘totally unacceptable’. “If somebody does that, it should be strongly discouraged. It is just unacceptable,” the Minister asserted. “People have to still respect our monuments, our paintings,” Hilaire declared. The Minister acknowledged that sometimes people consume alcohol, and in their enthusiasm and exuberance, they can stray. “We should always, both as law enforcement as well as citizens discourage people from doing that nonsense. You can’t go on our monuments, you need to get off,” Hilaire asserted. “Maybe they should have taken that person and put them in a safe place to cool off until the following morning,” he stated. The ‘All In’ sculpture is at the roundabout adjacent to the Castries Central Market and picturesque Castries Waterfront. The work by Jallim Eudovic was unveiled on 3rd October 2019, to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Saint Lucia’s Independence. It has been described as an allegoric sculpture that ‘tells the story’ of our ancestors. The article ‘Totally Unacceptable’ is from St. Lucia Times.
