Over one year since his mother’s death, Tristan Thompson is finally granted legal guardianship of his 17-year-old younger brother, Amari.

Back in September of 2023, the NBA free agent was awarded temporary guardianship of the 17-year-old. Now, according to documents obtained by People Magazine, the Los Angeles County Superior Court granted the 32-year-old sole guardianship of his disabled younger brother.
According to the court documents, “The Court finds that it is not in the Minor best interest to be returned to his/her parents’ previous country of nationality” of Canada, where Amari was born. The court also found “reunification” between Amari and Trevor is “not viable due to neglect, abandonment under California law.”
Trevor Douglas Thompson is Amari and Tristian’s father. Thompson stated in his September filing that the elder Thompson has been absent from his younger brother’s life since 2014 and that he is Amari’s closest living family member.

Thompson’s brother has epilepsy and other medical issues that would “render him unable to take care of himself or seek gainful employment,” as stated in the previous filings.
