Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan Immigrants Face Departure Orders from Trump Administration

MIAMI (AP) — On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security announced it has commenced notifying numerous Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans that their temporary authorization to reside and work in the United States has been annulled, urging them to exit the country. These termination alerts are being dispatched via email to individuals who entered under a humanitarian parole initiative established by the Biden administration. Since October 2022, around 532,000 entrants from the four nations received two-year permissions, facilitated by financial sponsors. DHS disclosed that the notifications declare the immediate revocation of both legal status and work permits, advising undocumented individuals to leave through the CBP Home mobile application, which provides travel assistance and a $1,000 relocation incentive. However, the agency did not clarify how it would monitor individuals after departure or disburse the funds. Trump's promise to end what he termed the “widespread abuse” of humanitarian parole sparked significant concern among immigration advocates, who view this move as severely destabilizing for those who had complied with regulations and sought to rebuild their lives.
