Trump Needs Needs To Back Off His Nonsense With The African American Museum

Recent remarks by President Donald Trump on social media regarding the portrayal of slavery by the Smithsonian Institution are both erroneous and embarrassing for our nation. He stated, “The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL,” criticizing the institution for emphasizing the nation’s flaws rather than highlighting successes. Trump's comments followed a letter from his administration requesting a thorough examination of Smithsonian museums to align with the narrative of American exceptionalism.Contrary to Trump's assertions, the museums, particularly the National Museum of African American History and Culture, offer a balanced view of history. They showcase the resilience and achievements of Black Americans alongside the brutal reality of slavery. Remarkably, the journey from slavery to the presidency of Barack Obama exemplifies significant progress. As a descendant of enslaved individuals, I recognize the importance of our history. It is essential for museums to present an accurate, honest narrative. President Trump should allow them to fulfill this vital role.
