Fred Redmond, the highest-ranking African American within the American labor movement's history, has raised concerns about what he calls a significant assault on Black workers during President Donald Trump’s second term. “Black unemployment has surged—exceeding double the national average,” Redmond informed Black Press USA. “Specifically for Black women, the unemployment rate has reached its highest since 2021, and this trend may escalate.”Today marked Redmond’s inaugural op-ed for BlackPressUSA.com, titled “Trump Didn’t Just Fail to Protect Black Jobs. He’s Leading Us to Black Unemployment.” At the A. Philip Randolph Institute’s convention in Chicago, Redmond addressed the attendees, vowing to resist what he characterized as harmful policies aimed at the working class, especially African Americans. He attributed job casualties in significant federal agencies to Trump’s ongoing scrutiny. “Such assaults have severely impacted the Black community,” he emphasized. “The administration's approach, particularly against federal figures, creates uncertainty and jeopardizes livelihoods.” (Photo: Cincinnati Herald)
