Tennessee State University mourns the loss of esteemed alumnus and committed supporter, Amos-Leon’ Otis, who departed on November 14 at the age of 85. A graduate of TSU in 1965, he achieved remarkable success as founder, president, and CEO of SoBran Inc., a notable firm specializing in technical and professional services for biomedical research, engineering, and logistics for various clients. His distinguished career as a U.S. Air Force officer earned him prestigious awards, including the 2015 Rosa Parks Courage Award.Otis dedicated over two decades to TSU, participating in student roundtables, providing mentorship, and establishing scholarships that empower future leaders. As Chairman of the TSU Foundation Board, he collaborated with President Dwayne Tucker to bolster initiatives supporting student advancement. Described as a paragon of integrity by Robert Blalock, Otis’ profound commitment to education culminated in significant contributions to scholarships and emergency funds for students. He is survived by his wife Brenda, two children, and three grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on TSU and beyond.
