Alfonso Ribeiro pulls no punches on Tyra Banks’ ‘One-Woman Show’ as DWTS host

Entertainment industry veteran Alfonso Ribeiro recently shared his insights regarding Tyra Banks' brief tenure as host of "Dancing with the Stars." Ribeiro, 54, co-hosted alongside Banks, 51, during season 31. He took over the role full-time after her departure from the ABC/Disney+ show.In a recent interview, Ribeiro expressed his admiration for Banks, stating, “I have immense respect for Tyra. She's an exceptional person and performer.” He noted that her arrival coincided with the pandemic, which hindered her ability to connect with cast members. “It didn't allow for authentic engagement,” he mentioned.Ribeiro elaborated that the show's structure traditionally required two hosts, but under Banks, it transitioned into a “one-woman show.” He emphasized, “When you disrupt a show's core dynamic, it sets the stage for failure.” Additionally, he pointed out the challenge of succeeding Tom Bergeron, whom he deemed the best host on television, ultimately acknowledging that the show’s configuration was inadequate for Banks to thrive.
