In a message to consumers, the Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) expressed a commitment to improving its operations, including upgrading its aging infrastructure.
“Looking ahead, we remain committed to improving our operations, upgrading infrastructure and enhancing our resilience to climate change to ensure a more reliable supply for every home, every business and every community,” Chief Executive Officer Zilta George-Leslie stated.
The company has blamed aging infrastructure for limiting its ability to respond quickly to changing conditions.
Moreover, WASCO has explained that consumers’ low water rates constrain the company’s ability to invest in necessary upgrades and improvements, impacting service reliability, especially during high-demand periods.
The utility’s CEO noted that addressing WASCO’s infrastructural deficiencies is ongoing. George-Leslie observed that some network parts have been in place for decades and require frequent maintenance.
“We are actively working to upgrade these systems, but this is a long-term process and requires investment and time,” George-Leslie said.
Nevertheless, she declared WASCO’s commitment to minimising service interruptions and keeping consumers informed.
