WASCO Successfully Completes Pipeline Repairs

The Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) has completed repairs to its raw water pipeline between the John Compton Dam and the Theobalds treatment plant in Ciceron, Castries. The repairs commenced on March 1, triggering a Northern system shutdown. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zilta George-Leslie told reporters that the repairs took approximately 36 hours despite challenging conditions created by overnight rainfall. George-Leslie also disclosed that WASCO technicians welded eighteen defective sections of the pipeline. She explained that at 8:pm on Saturday, March 2, WASCO resumed systematic water distribution with a phased reinstatement to consumers in the North. However, the WASCO CEO observed that consumers at higher elevations and the network’s extreme ends may experience delays and low flows as the pressures build up. “We remain committed to addressing the water supply challenges and to ensuring that the operation of our infrastructure meets the needs of our customers,” George-Leslie stated.
