A disabled Navy veteran is on the mend after a shooting incident involving a white man who accused him of “stolen valor.” As reported by KIRO, 68-year-old Harold Powell was performing outside a Seattle Starbucks at Pier 55 when he was shot in the chest on July 31. After a brief hospitalization, Powell is recovering. “I was more shocked than anything else,” he reflected on the experience, acknowledging a moment of clarity that made him reach out to his family, fearing the worst. The alleged shooter, 32-year-old Gregory William Timm, faces first-degree assault charges. Prosecutors assert that Timm initiated the altercation by questioning Powell’s military credentials, even tearing a military patch off his wheelchair. In a tense exchange, Powell retrieved his identification and a small knife for protection, along with an airsoft gun. Timm escalated the situation by drawing a handgun, firing at Powell, and then attempting to defuse the chaos among bystanders. Bail for Timm is set at $750,000. Powell’s family has initiated a GoFundMe to assist with mounting medical expenses.
