Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, alongside various city department representatives, observed the demolition of a fire-damaged house in the Smithfield area. He emphasized ongoing efforts to eliminate blighted houses, achieving 126 demolitions in 2025 and nearly 2,500 since 2018. “Revitalizing neighborhoods is paramount,” Woodfin stated, highlighting the city's commitment to improving community safety. The legal framework guiding these demolitions includes inspections, property owner notifications, and council approvals. This year’s demolition budget stands at $1.5 million, alongside over $20 million allocated for broader neighborhood enhancements.
