Kentucky State Trooper James Cameron Wright, already confronted with a potential 25-year prison sentence for misconduct, faced a new lawsuit filed Monday. This lawsuit alleges that he excessively tasered Dawson Blevins repeatedly while the latter was on the ground and compliant.
The disturbing incident, captured by body cameras, illustrates a troubling trend of excessive force used by Wright, who has reportedly engaged in similar activities for years with minimal consequences. In March, a federal grand jury indicted the 30-year-old officer on two counts of excessive force and one count of perjury, relating to events from 2020 that are distinct from the latest allegations.
Wright's pattern of abusive conduct, evident in multiple prior incidents, is further highlighted in the lawsuit, which names several fellow troopers accused of complicity in covering up Wright's actions. Blevins, wrongfully jailed for over four months, faced charges that have now been dismissed.
