Saint Lucia’s soca landscape welcomed a dynamic new artist last weekend when 12-year-old Akayla Lewis, performing as Ti Pima, stepped onto the grand stage at the Ultimate Soca Tent. The audience was captivated by her extraordinary performance, which defied her young age. A student at Ave Maria Primary School, Ti Pima confidently took on a challenging platform, engaging her fan base with the original song, "Awa My Girl," which showcased her impressive vocal prowess and stage charisma.
Acknowledging her nerves about performing for an older crowd, she shared with St Lucia Times, "I usually sing for those in my age group." Despite her youth, Ti Pima has gained recognition, notably securing second place in the Ave Clash competition before winning it with her original piece. Influenced by local icons like Ricky T and Shemmy J, her ambitions are equally formidable, aspiring to thrive in music while pursuing a career in pediatric medicine.
Her mother, Kadesha Esnard, expressed her surprise and pride in Ti Pima's talent, recounting how her daughter passionately pursued performance opportunities. As Ti Pima prepares to return to Ave Clash on June 26 with another new song, Esnard remains confident in her daughter’s bright future
