The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) commenced a motorcycle training course on Monday.
Miguel Lansiquot, Inspector of Police in charge of the Traffic Department, Castries, explained that the training is part of efforts to improve road safety, following a mandate from Police Commissioner Verne Garde.
According to Lansiquot, the course aims to equip 17 police officers with knowledge of the basic functions and manoeuvres of operating a motorcycle.
“We do advanced courses for our more experienced riders, but this course is set to just teach new people coming into the riding fraternity the manoeuvrability… how to ride a motorcycle properly,” Lansiquot stated.
As the course is certified by the Department of Transport, Lansiquot noted that “on completion of the training, [officers] will be getting the endorsement for motorcycles.” After the training, officers will receive on-the-job practice to further enhance their skills.
The course is scheduled to run for two weeks.
