The United States Coast Guard Cutters Heriberto Hernandez and Richard Dixon repatriated 91 illegal migrants at sea between Wednesday and Friday.
The Coast Guard repatriated the migrants to the Dominican Republic following two separate interdictions in Mona Passage waters near Puerto Rico.
A Coast Guard release indicated that most migrants claimed Dominican Republic nationality, while five said they were Haitians.
The US Coast Guard has reiterated the danger of illegal migration at sea.
According to Cmdr. Matthew Romano, Sector San Juan chief of response: “These voyages continuously threaten the lives of the migrants who embark unseaworthy and grossly overloaded makeshift vessels to transit the Mona Passage. We urge those thinking of taking part in one of these voyages to not take to the sea at risk to your life, and instead seek safe, orderly and lawful migration pathways.”
