The Associated Press has disclosed that a real estate broker and an investor from Hawaii, dismissed from a $240 million luxury property endeavor, are suing baseball star Shohei Ohtani along with his agent. Ohtani invested over $17 million to acquire one of the lavish residences under development along the Hapuna Coast at Mauna Kea Resort on Hawaii's Big Island. His involvement was reportedly sought because of his high-profile status and promotional appeal. Speculation about his property acquisition emerged in April 2024. The lawsuit alleges that Ohtani and his agent, Nez Balelo, committed “tortious interference and unjust enrichment.” According to claims, developer Kevin J. Hayes Sr. and broker Tomoko Matsumoto were pressured into exiting due to Balelo's relentless request for concessions. The official project website highlights the neighborhood and select homes. Ohtani reportedly plans to establish a small facility for preseason training and stay there during the offseason.
