Kansas City’s previously homogenous corridor is welcoming its inaugural Black and queer-owned alcohol-free establishment, Namaste & Midtown. Reopening on August 1, this transformative venue, formerly known as Midtown Kava, is now a haven for marginalized communities, including Black, queer, trans, and sober individuals. Led by Moon Brown, Alan Wayne, and Andrew Beck, the trio is dedicated to fostering healing and community. Brown, a community advocate with extensive anti-violence experience, has expertly created wellness-focused environments. Wayne infuses vibrant energy from his artistic endeavors, while Beck translates vision into structure through his construction expertise. Namaste & Midtown offers meticulously crafted "Sacred Sips," designed to encourage mindfulness and connection. With a rich menu featuring unique beverages like “Blue Moon” and “Astral Grounds,” this space aims to nurture mental wellness. Additionally, it hosts events celebrating Black and queer artistry, where every guest can feel at home and acknowledged, thereby redefining community engagement in a historically exclusionary neighborhood.
