After six years with the team, Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets, decided to remove general manager Joe Douglas on Tuesday. According to a report by Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Johnson has reportedly been more involved in behind-the-scenes activities lately.
According to the story, Johnson had a “contentious” meeting with Jets coaches, including former head coach Robert Saleh, who was sacked a week later, after the team lost to the Denver Broncos 10–9 in Week 4. Johnson aggressively recommended to the coaches during the meeting that Tyrod Taylor be benched in place of Aaron Rodgers because he believed that Rodgers was the primary source of the team’s problems.

In the end, just four games into the season, Jets coaches were able to convince Johnson against making such a snap choice.
