(Special to The Dallas Examiner) – An estimated 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 4 men nationwide, have experienced a form of physical violence from a partner. In addition to causing serious physical and emotional harm, survivors of domestic violence experience a significant economic impact with survivors losing eight days of paid work, costing over $8.3 billion per year. Further, survivors may be subject to financial abuse, including restricted access to income or information about their finances.A few days following the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act – a landmark legislation that prevents and addresses violence against women and provides justice and support for survivors – Congressman Colin Allred, TX-32, and Congresswoman Emilia Sykes, OH-13, introduced the Skills Against Violence Act.
