Arike Ogunbowale Opts Out of USA Basketball Women’s National Team, Cites Subjective Selection

Ogunbowale is averaging 23.9 points and 5 assists while shooting 36.1 percent from the three-point line. She is the second leading scorer in the WNBA behind Las Vegas Aces forward and two-time MVP A’ja Wilson and leads the league in steals. Unfortunately, the guard out of Notre Dame won’t be in Paris representing the United States in this year’s Olympics as she took her name out of the player pool months prior. While appearing on ‘The Nightcap’ podcast with former NFL players turned podcasters Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, she expressed her belief on why she wouldn’t be selected and the deciding factor to take her name out of consideration. “It’s really about who they feel fits with the team. So, I actually took my name out the pool months ago.
