Scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the Appleton Room, Jubilee Hall at Fisk University, this event promises to delve into Cyrus's innovative use of collage and assemblage. Born in Houston, TX, in 1973, Cyrus's work navigates the dynamic landscape of Black cultural expression and resistance across the African diaspora. His practice reinterprets everyday items and archival elements, forging complex compositions that echo stories of identity, memory, and liberation.
Cyrus obtained his BFA from the University of Houston in 2004 and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. His accolades include the 2023 Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2020 Driskell Prize from the High Museum of Art. His mid-career survey, The End of My Beginning, debuted at the Blaffer Art Museum in 2021 and later traveled to notable institutions.
